The Art of Supporting Dance-Making

In partnership with the Alliance of Artists Communities, the Hatchery Project put together The Art of Supporting Dance-Making -- a day-long convening which took place at the AAC’s annual conference on October 21, 2014 in Charleston, South Carolina. The Art of Supporting Dance-Making used the Hatchery Project as a launching point to examine challenges, opportunities, and models in the support of performing arts and artists through residencies. This session explored the ways in which organizations and independent artists can create fruitful partnerships dedicated to research and development - protecting stable and productive work environments and digging deeper into the relationship between process and product (recognizing that these things mean different things to different people). Session topics included Conditions for Collective Advancement, Engaged Research vs. Community Engagement, and Building Visibility and Value for Residencies in Dance.
